'Maternity tourism' leaves MDs footing bill
Quebec doctors say there's been a rise in "maternity tourism" over the last year and they're upset because some foreigners don't pay their hospital bill.

Several Montreal hospitals have noticed an increase in the number of pregnant foreign women, predominantly from French-speaking countries, who travel to Canada to give birth, according to the Quebec Federation of Medical Specialists.

Maple Leaf Foods Class Action Launched
ListeriaA Canadian Law Group has launched lawsuits against Maple Leaf Foods for individuals affected by the recent contamination of meat products, which has led to various cases of listeriosis. 

Merchant Law Group announced that it is filing class proceedings lawsuits concerning the listeria outbreak which is now linked to 12 deaths and various cases of serious illness by people who have ingested contaminated meat and other products.

Poultry, Eggs, Pork Safe for Human Consumption
 Following reports last week that millions of American consumers have eaten chickens that were fed recalled tainted pet food, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today announced that the risk to humans from eating poultry, eggs or pork from animals whose feed was supplemented with tainted pet food scraps is "very low" and is safe to eat.

Popular Anti-Constipation Drug Zelnorm Pulled from North American Markets
 A popular and widely-prescribed medication used to relieve constipation in women has been pulled off the pharmacy shelves in the United States and Canada at the request of the U.S.-based FDA. The drug, manufactured by the Swiss-based pharmaceutical company,  Novartis AG has been linked to a higher risk of heart attack and stroke in women who have been prescribed the drug. It was also discovered that heart related chest pain can evolve into a full blown heart attack more frequently for women taking the drug.

Health Canada is warning consumers not to use the unauthorized natural health product XOX For Men, because it contains an undeclared pharmaceutical ingredient, tadalafil, an ingredient found in the prescription drug Cialis. The use of XOX For Men could pose serious health risks, especially for patients with existing medical conditions such as heart problems, those taking heart medication, or those at risk of stroke.
